Dev View Introduction

Dev View is in beta — the interface and available features may change, and some capabilities need an eligible plan.

What is Dev View?

Dev View is a view in ProtoPie Cloud where developers inspect a prototype's design and interaction details and hand that context to an AI coding agent through Code MCP. Open the exact prototype, read its structure and properties, and copy a link that gives an agent a precise spec. For the full workflow, see the Code MCP sections above.

Opening Dev View

Open it from ProtoPie Cloud by hovering over a Pie and clicking < > Dev View, choosing Open Dev View from the Pie's context menu or the Preview top menu, or pasting a Dev View URL. Dev View always shows the latest version of the Pie.

Requirements & access

  • Viewing needs a Pro, Pro Plus, or Enterprise plan (Personal or Team Space). On Free/Basic the < > Dev View button is visible but locked.

  • The MCP link is gated separately — it appears only if you have download access to the Pie. See Access and permissions above.

The Dev View interface

Selecting a scene, container, or layer updates every panel.

  • Layer Panel (left) — the Pie's layer hierarchy, as in Studio.

  • Canvas (center) — a preview of the selected scene; hover for spacing/distance, zoom to inspect elements.

  • Inspector — Property (right) — design details: layout, fill (HEX/RGB/HSL), and text styles.

  • Interactions — Property (right) — a trigger → response tree showing order, delay, parallel timing, and hidden interactions.

  • MCP tab — copy a context link for your selection and open the setup guides.

MCP tab

Select nothing (whole Pie), a scene, a component, or a layer, then press Copy link — it pins the revision you're viewing. Without download access, the link is hidden ("MCP links require Pro or Enterprise plan and Download Access. Ask the Pie owner."). See Quickstart above for the full flow.

Sharing

Use Copy Link in the top bar to share a link that opens Dev View directly. Preview and Dev View links are separate.
